The early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia is largely unknown to Church members, even to most Australian members. Yet this history is fascinating, and the contribution of the early members to the Church has been enormous-both in Australia and in America.
This book describes the conditions that existed when the first missionaries arrived and provides an overview of some of the converts and their sacrifices as the Church was being established. It also describes the difficulties and loss of life that occurred as the Saints were crossing the Pacific Ocean on their way to Zion, and the challenges posed by missionaries of the so-called Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but which eventually led to one third of Joseph and Emma Smith’s descendants living in Australia.
Although this book is mainly about the early history of the Saints, it does not overlook the progress of the Church and the devotion of its members in more recent times. But times have changed, and because of the many prophecies regarding a coming apostasy, I also touch on this subject.
